Oh, February! The last month of winter is the hardest to get through. Reminisce with me about warm summer days. Here’s a video slide show from a beach session this past summer–this family’s first professional portraits ever and my first beach shoot ever. From the moment we hit the sand these adorable boys wanted to run into the water so watch for the big splashes at the end. Needless to say, I’m looking forward to more beach sessions in 2010. Enjoy this little bit of sunshine on a cold day!

I’m going to my nephew Van’s birthday party tomorrow (2 years old!) so I’m trying to catch up on some of his sessions. These images are from August of 2008. I love this age. (I say that about all ages actually, but all ages are fabulous in their own way!) On the move, little butt waving back and forth, full of personality, curious and excited about everything, wants to go-go-go. The nudies here make me want to photograph more babies in 2010…I smell a Baby Plan in the works (probably something official to be launched by March). The images of him in his little white shirt and tie are quintessential jookie to me: great texture and depth of field, fashion-conscious, but still emphasizing his adorable face and expressions. The last image is from his 2009 holiday session with his sisters. Happy birthday, little man!

When January rolls around it’s time for me to head to the annual photography conference put on by the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), of which I’m a proud member. This year it was at the Opryland Resort in Nashville and another great line of speakers as usual, including Laura Novak, Kimberley Wylie, Allison & Jeff Rodgers, Jeff & Julia Woods, Joe Buissink… Joe was super inspiring with infectious excitement for capturing those moments of love between people. Listening to him speak really hit home with me, and I really connected with the great joy he has as a photographer.
It was a wonderful time to reconnect with photographer friends and past mentors like the amazing Sarah Petty, who is not only a terrific photographer but a fabulous marketing guru. My friend Kimberley of Kimberley Donohue Photography took this photo of Sarah and me in the trade show. Thanks, Kimberley!
